Man, 71, accused of stabbing elderly Jewish woman in Ottawa has history of antisemitic comments

Joseph (Joe) Rooke, a 71-year-old from Cornwall, Ont., was charged with aggravated assault after a Jewish woman was stabbed at an Ottawa grocery store in what police classified as a hate-motivated crime. Rooke, who has a history of antisemitic and anti-religious rhetoric, had previously engaged in numerous unsuccessful legal challenges against religious institutions and expressed his disdain for Jews on social media.
