Court documents reveal that a man from Oregon, Michael Meyden, has been charged with multiple felonies for allegedly spiking smoothies with sedatives and giving them to his daughter’s pre-teen friends. Meyden, 57, of Lake Oswego, reportedly drugged three 12-year-old girls who were sleeping over at his house on August 25, 2023. The girls were hospitalized and tested positive for benzodiazepine, a sedative typically prescribed for anxiety.
The affidavit, written by a Lake Oswego police detective, did not provide a reason for Meyden’s actions. Meyden faces charges including causing another person to ingest a controlled substance and delivering a controlled substance to minors.
Meyden’s attorney, Mark Cogan, stated that his client turned himself in following a grand jury indictment. Despite pleading not guilty, Meyden posted bail of $50,000.
According to the affidavit, Meyden was extensively involved in the girls’ activities during the sleepover, taking them for nail appointments and providing pizza for dinner. The girls spent most of their time in the basement having a “spa night.”
Before bedtime, Meyden made smoothies for the girls, ensuring each had their own colored straw for identification. One girl reported feeling woozy and eventually blacked out after consuming two smoothies. Meyden’s behavior towards the girls raised concerns, with one girl reaching out to her parents in distress.
Despite Meyden’s efforts to prevent the girls from leaving, they were safely picked up by family friends. The unsettling incident has left the community shocked and awaiting further details from the ongoing investigation.
