The Jury Lands Foundation (JLF) has gained unanimous support from Bowmanville, Ont. councillors to restore the historic cafeteria building of the former Camp 30, a WWII site, now under their responsibility for fundraising and restoration. JLF chair Marilyn Morawetz expressed her surprise and gratitude for the approval, while the estimated cost for the first phase of restoration is $2.6 million, with $1 million already secured through a federal grant. Manorville Homes, assisting in the project, indicated the building’s condition is manageable compared to other restorations, aiming to complete phase one in about a year after raising the remaining funds. Municipal staff will collaborate with Manorville Homes to oversee the project, with a deadline set for the end of this year to secure additional financing.
