On December 17, 2024, the ‘One Nation, One Election’ (ONOP) Bill will be introduced in the Lok Sabha by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, following approval by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union Cabinet. The bill aims to conduct Lok Sabha and Assembly Elections simultaneously, with support from ex-President Ram Nath Kovind and opposition from leaders like Mamata Banerjee and MK Stalin. The proposed bill will be referred to a Joint Committee of Parliament for wider consultations and implementation in two phases, potentially impacting the country’s GDP positively.
