On the trail of a killer: Ireland’s first mink-detection dog is saving birds from a voracious predator

Lorg, a three-year-old labrador retriever, is Ireland’s only mink-detection dog, helping to track down the invasive species threatening avian conservation efforts. With handler Owen Murphy, Lorg is pioneering the use of conservation detection canines in the country. Thanks to Lorg’s unique skills, avian conservation efforts are getting back on track as he sniffs out mink and protects vulnerable bird populations.
