A time capsule was found at the former council headquarters in Ashburton, containing items such as a commemorative coin from the 1974 Commonwealth Games and a letter from former mayor D’Arcy Digby. The capsule, opened by the Ashburton Art Gallery and Museum archivist Connor Lysaght, also included a page from the Ashburton Guardian and a visitor promotion pamphlet. These well-preserved items will be displayed at the new library and administration building, where a new time capsule has been sealed to be opened in 2078, providing a glimpse into the lives of people in 2024.
