A time capsule was found at the former council headquarters in Ashburton, containing items such as a commemorative coin from the 1974 Commonwealth Games and a letter from former mayor DβArcy Digby. The capsule, opened by the Ashburton Art Gallery and Museum archivist Connor Lysaght, also included a page from the Ashburton Guardian and a visitor promotion pamphlet.
