Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) has launched a joint venture, Japan Offshore Support (JOS), with Akita Eisen Kisen Kaisha, focusing on crew transfer vessel (CTV) operations for domestic offshore wind projects in Japan. NYK will hold a 51% stake in JOS, which will handle CTV maintenance, management, training, and employment for seafarers, aiming to provide safe and efficient services to support the stable supply of electricity from offshore wind power generation in Japan. With plans to invest over $280m in the sector by 2026, NYK is gearing up for the growing demand for CTVs as Japan’s offshore wind industry expands.
