The UK government’s increase in employer national insurance contributions has prompted 96% of nurseries to consider raising fees, creating financial strain as one in six nurseries expect to operate at a loss this year. The National Day Nurseries Association’s survey of 728 nurseries reveals that the average fee hike will be around 10%, exacerbating the already high childcare costs in the UK. With funding rates increasing by only 4% while nursery staffing costs rise by 15%, nurseries and parents are left to bear the burden of the government’s tax hikes, further impacting the affordability of childcare in the UK.
