An 18-year-old Swiss national has died from injuries sustained in a New Year’s Day bar fire in Crans-Montana, raising the death toll to 41. The fire, which injured over 100, is believed to have started when candles ignited soundproofing material on the ceiling. Bar co-owner Jacques Moretti was arrested and later released on bail, while his wife remains under house arrest; both are under investigation for negligent homicide and related charges. Local officials noted the bar had not undergone a fire safety inspection since 2019.
