SINGAPORE: National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) secretary-general Ng Chee Meng has requested Prime Minister Lawrence Wong not to assign him a government position, focusing instead on his parliamentary duties and union responsibilities. Ng, who won the Jalan Kayu constituency with 51.47% of the vote, also apologized for past remarks perceived as disrespectful during a 2017 education dialogue and clarified he had no further interactions with convicted money launderer Su Haijin after a previous engagement. He expressed gratitude to supporters and reaffirmed his commitment to serving Singaporeans.
