Authorities issue formal advisory for private sector to stop using NRIC numbers as passwords, authentication

The Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI) of Singapore has advised private sector organizations to cease using National Registration Identity Card (NRIC) numbers for authentication due to risks of impersonation and data breaches. This follows a formal advisory from the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) and Cyber Security Agency (CSA), emphasizing the need for alternative authentication methods such as strong passwords and biometric identification.
