Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston’s Response to Bloc Leader’s Comments

Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston expressed his dismay at Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet’s remarks describing Canada as “an artificial country with very little meaning.” In a letter to Blanchet, Houston urged him to reflect on Canadian pride and suggested he step aside if he cannot embrace his role as an elected official representing Canada. Blanchet, a separatist who views Canada as a foreign nation, has long criticized the federal government, particularly regarding the protection of the French language in Quebec.
