A Nova Scotia woman, Penny Patricia Boudreau, serving life for strangling her 12-year-old daughter, Karissa, may soon apply for unescorted temporary absences from prison. The Parole Board of Canada has noted considerations for such absences as early as June 2025, despite significant community opposition and grief expressed in numerous victim impact statements. Boudreau, who has completed various escorted absences since 2018, was sentenced to life with no parole for 20 years after claiming her actions were to save her relationship with her boyfriend.
