A company based in Florida is taking legal action to challenge New Jersey’s prohibition on immigrant detention centers, as it plans to establish a new facility in Newark. The GEO Group, the company behind the lawsuit, argues that the state’s ban goes against the Constitution.
According to the lawsuit, the state ban is hindering GEO Group’s plans for Delaney Hall, a privately-operated facility with a capacity for 1,196 beds. The company claims that the ban is impeding their efforts to establish the facility.
