Nikita Tszyu successfully defended his Australian super welterweight title by defeating Danilo Creati in a unanimous points decision at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion. Tszyu, with a record of 9-0 and 8 KOs, dominated the fight early on with powerful left hand shots, resulting in a knockdown scored against Creati in the second round. Despite a mid-fight scare where Creati managed to land a big right hand in the sixth round, Tszyu managed to maintain control and secure the win with scores of 100-88, 99-90, and 100-89.
Tszyu’s elder brother, Tim, a former WBO junior middleweight champion, was in attendance to support him. The fight went the full 10 rounds, with Tszyu showcasing his skills and resilience against a tough challenger in Creati.
Tszyu’s performance in the latter rounds sealed the victory, although Creati displayed remarkable conditioning and durability throughout the fight. This was Tszyu’s first time going beyond the sixth round, and Creati, known for never being stopped as a professional, maintained that reputation.
In other fights on the card, Malik Zinad became the first Libyan to qualify for a professional world title fight with a majority points win over Jerome Pampellone. Linn Sandstrom suffered a defeat in a women’s WBA super flyweight world title fight against Clara Lescurat, and Cesar Mateo Tapia claimed the WBO Latino middleweight title with a points win over Keiber Gonzalez.
