Newsom heads to D.C. to lobby for California before Trump takes over

Gov. Gavin Newsom is traveling to Washington to advocate for California programs on the environment and disaster funding ahead of Trump’s departure. He is seeking EPA approval for clean-air rules that could prevent 11,000 premature deaths and $100 billion in health benefits, as well as pushing for Medicaid funding for homeless programs and wildfire relief. Trump has threatened to withhold disaster funding if California does not comply with his policies.
