New Zealand pilot freed after being held captive by Papuan rebels for one-and-a-half years

Phillip Mehrtens, a New Zealand pilot, has been released after being held captive for over 1.5 years by Papuan armed separatists who had threatened to shoot him if their demands were not met. New Zealand’s foreign minister expressed relief that Mehrtens is safe and well following his release in the Indonesian province of Highland.
