Despite global tariff threats from U.S. President Donald Trump, New Zealand remains optimistic about its trade relationship with the United States, citing a balanced and complementary trade dynamic. The country exported NZ$14.6 billion in goods and services to the U.S., making it New Zealand’s second-largest export market, with a trade balance of NZ$3.5 billion. Finance Minister Nicola Willis highlighted the importance of the strategic relationship between the two nations, emphasizing the role of the “Five Eyes” intelligence alliance and the potential impact of a lower New Zealand dollar on exports if tariffs are implemented.
