New Zealand bounced back from a tough start to defeat Sri Lanka by 61 runs in the Twenty20 World Cup Super Eights, knocking the cohosts out of the tournament. Mitchell Santner’s 47 off 26 balls led New Zealand to a competitive 168-7, with Sri Lanka only managing 107-8 in reply. Rachin Ravindra and Matt Henry shone with the ball for New Zealand, sealing the win. England has already qualified for the semifinals in Group 2, while New Zealand now has three points after this crucial victory.
