New Hampshire Settles Lawsuit in Harmony Montgomery Case
New Hampshire has agreed to pay $2.25 million to Crystal Sorey, the mother of Harmony Montgomery, a 5-year-old girl believed to have been murdered by her father, Adam Montgomery, who is serving a 56-year prison sentence. Sorey filed a negligence lawsuit against the state, alleging social workers ignored signs of abuse after her ex-husband was awarded custody in 2019. Although the state does not admit wrongdoing in the settlement, it follows previous settlements related to child welfare cases, raising concerns about the state’s child protection practices.
