Netball turns over a new leaf as 2024 season looms
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Forgiven, but not forgotten, as The Corrs once sang.

Last year’s Super Netball CPA negotiations caused significant damage to the sport, with athletes hoping fans will continue to support the sport.

At the 2024 Super Netball launch in Sydney, team captains reflected on the tough year, emphasizing the impact of unpaid players and public disputes over revenue sharing.

Joyce Brown and Liz Ellis criticized the handling of the CPA negotiations, with Brown calling it the sport’s “lowest point” and Ellis questioning Netball Australia’s leadership.

After a deal was finally reached in December, CEO Kelly Ryan stepped down, followed by director Marina Go.

Wendy Archer’s departure further highlights the ongoing repercussions from last year’s events.

Archer’s decision to step down will lead to new leadership appointments, crucial for the sport’s future.

Players and officials are optimistic about moving forward with a renewed focus on the sport and improved governance.

The controversy surrounding last year’s negotiations has had varying effects on fans, with some showing increased interest while others remain cautious.

The upcoming Team Girls Cup will showcase the new Melbourne Mavericks team and mark a fresh start for the league.

Tune in to the Team Girls Cup from Friday at 4pm AEDT on Fox Netball.

While no cognitive impairment was observed, the study, the first to use MRI for this purpose, suggests that such impacts warrant caution and potential limits on heading, especially in youth training, as footballers have a higher dementia risk.
