SINGAPORE: Red Dot United (RDU) has unveiled its slate of potential candidates for Nee Soon GRC in the upcoming General Election, including its secretary-general Ravi Philemon and chairman David Foo, announced on April 20, 2025. Both candidates have prior electoral experience, with Dr. Foo previously contesting in Jurong GRC and Mr. Philemon running in Jurong GRC under RDU in 2020. RDU faces a challenge from a People’s Action Party slate likely led by Law Minister K Shanmugam, who has strong local support since 1988.

RDU team also includes newcomers Mr. Pang Heng Chuan, Ms. Sharon Lin, and Dr. Syed Alwi Ahmad, emphasizing the importance of the constituency led by a senior minister. Philemon acknowledged the challenge of reaching all voters in the large GRC, which has 151,634 registered voters, and expressed confidence in improving conditions in Nee Soon or Yishun.

Philemon referred to Shanmugam as a “formidable opponent” and highlighted the significance of the upcoming election, where the PAP previously won 61.9% of the vote in 2020 against the Progress Singapore Party. The constituency’s boundaries remained unchanged, and RDU aims to secure a mandate from residents to effect positive changes.

In 2020, the PAP’s team comprising Mr. Shanmugam, Mr. Louis Ng, Ms. Carrie Tan, Mr. Derrick Goh, and Associate Professor Faishal Ibrahim won 61.9% of the vote in Nee Soon GRC. That year, they faced a Progress Singapore Party (PSP) team made up of Mr. Bradley Bowyer, Mr. Muhammad Taufik Supan, Mr. S. Nallakaruppan, Mr. Tay Chye Seng, and Ms. Kala Manickam, who has since joined RDU. The electoral boundaries of Nee Soon GRC have not changed since the 2020 election, with 151,634 registered voters, up from 146,902 in the previous contest.
