At least 242 million children in 85 countries experienced disrupted schooling due to extreme weather in 2024, with heatwaves being the primary climate hazard. Low-income nations in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa were hit the hardest, with hundreds of schools destroyed. UNICEF highlighted the vulnerability of children to weather-related crises and emphasized the urgent need for better-equipped education systems to address these challenges.
