Parishioners of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate took over the largest Orthodox church in Cherkasy, the Mikhailovsky Cathedral, after transferring a part of it to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. Around 18 thousand supporters of the Moscow church stormed the cathedral, using tear gas and causing a confrontation. Law enforcement arrived to maintain public order and document violations, while plans were made to turn the cathedral into a garrison temple and center for national-patriotic education.
