MONTREAL — During the NDP French language leadership debate, candidates largely criticized Liberal MP Steven Guilbeault’s decision to resign from cabinet over a pipeline agreement while remaining in the party. Heather McPherson questioned his commitment, asserting the NDP does not accept floor-crossers, while other candidates expressed mixed opinions on welcoming him to their ranks. Rob Ashton emphasized the missed opportunity for voters in Guilbeault’s riding to support the NDP, and Tanille Johnston suggested the party should recruit candidates elsewhere. The next debate will take place in B.C. in February.
