A Navy sailor, Master-at-Arms 1st Class Jeffrey Diaz, 47, died in Hawaii while rescuing his two sons from a strong ocean wave at Waiapua’a Bay. Diaz instructed the older child to return to shore while he attempted to save the younger one. Although both children made it back safely, Diaz was later found unresponsive and pronounced dead at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital. His family and the Pacific Missile Range Facility expressed deep sorrow over his passing and commitment to supporting his loved ones.
