Myanmar’s military bombed insurgents attacking China’s investment cornerstone in Kyaukpyu, killing civilians, as the Arakan Army advances in Rakhine state. The AA, backed by ethnic Rakhine Buddhists, seized 14 townships, threatening Kyaukpyu’s strategic deep-sea port and energy resources. Despite China’s mediation attempts, heavy fighting is expected as the AA closes in on military camps in the area.
