The victims of a fatal landslide in Pāpāmoa on January 22 have been identified as 10-year-old Austen Keith Richardson and his 71-year-old grandmother Yao Fang. The landslide occurred around 4am on Welcome Bay Rd, resulting in one other serious injury. Austen’s parents described the close bond between Austen and his grandmother, who he affectionately called Nai Nai. Austen was born in Shanghai and moved to New Zealand with his family when he was eight months old.
