Two prisoners escape from jail on New Year’s Day

Two violent prisoners, Matthew Armstrong, 35, and Daniel Washbourne, 40, escaped from HMP Leyhill in South Gloucestershire on New Year’s Day. Armstrong, convicted of murder, is described as 5ft 9ins with ginger hair, last seen in a burgundy and orange coat, while Washbourne is 5ft 6ins with brown hair, last seen in a cream fleece. Police urge the public to call 999 if they see either man and advise against approaching them. Ongoing efforts are being made to trace their movements and locate them.
