MPI investigation finds ‘concerning’ instances

The MPI has completed the first phase of an investigation into allegations of sheep mistreatment during shearing practices, following claims from PETA regarding a farm connected to Matt Lauer. The animal welfare team has analyzed 235 videos and continues to collaborate with PETA, industry groups, and farm owners, with a focus on concerning instances for the next phase of the investigation. MPI is considering various actions, such as prosecution and disqualification, to ensure animal protection and accountability, while also working with wool sector groups to establish an oversight group for animal welfare improvement in the industry.
