Thousands of Canadians miscarry every year. For them, Mother's Day can be a reminder of loss

Mother’s Day is traditionally a time for celebration, allowing children to express their love and appreciation for their mothers. However, for the estimated one in 10 mothers who have experienced a miscarriage or the loss of a child, this day can evoke feelings of grief rather than joy. As illustrated by children creating Mother’s Day cards at the California Institute for Women state prison in Chino, the day can also highlight the emotional complexities surrounding motherhood and loss.
