Missouri lawmakers, six months after voters approved an abortion-rights amendment, have advanced a new referendum aimed at its repeal, proposing to ban most abortions with exceptions for rape and incest. The measure, passed by a 21-11 vote in the Senate, will go back to voters in November 2026, unless a special election is called. Following the vote, protests erupted, and Democrats criticized the Republicans for undermining voter choices, while Republicans assert they are providing voters another opportunity to express their views on abortion policy.
