Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdene quits after losing confidence vote in Parliament.
Mongolian Prime Minister Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdene resigned following a failed confidence vote prompted by widespread anticorruption protests and public dissatisfaction with his family’s lifestyle. Despite his claims of an organized campaign against him and warnings of potential instability, he secured only 44 votes in support, falling short of the required 64 in the 126-seat Parliament. Oyun-Erdene, in office since January 2021, will serve in a caretaker role until a successor is appointed within 30 days.
