Mitsubishi Heavy debuts satellite technology capable of tracking the dark fleet

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has unveiled AIRIS, a satellite technology that combines Earth-observation cameras with artificial intelligence to detect dark fleets globally, particularly ships not using AIS. AIRIS processes visual data onboard and transmits only relevant information, aiding in monitoring maritime activities and combating illegal fishing. Japan’s JAXA will conduct space trials with AIRIS, signifying a significant advancement in maritime monitoring capabilities.
