The Ministry of Community Development announced the commencement of registration for People of Determination students for the upcoming academic year 2024/2025 starting from 15th April until 28th June on the ministry’s website www.mocd.gov.ae.

Admission is restricted to children with intellectual disabilities, autism, and multiple disabilities where intellectual disability coexists with other disabilities.

During the previous academic year 2022/2023, around 53 students graduated and benefited from rehabilitation and educational services focused on enhancing their skills in various areas and promoting their social inclusion for empowerment and comprehensive integration.

The services offered at People of Determination centers include physical and occupational therapy for motor skill development, speech therapy, psychological assessment, behavior modification services, educational classes for cognitive and life skills, and vocational rehabilitation to equip individuals with professional skills for better opportunities in employment.

Early intervention centers and units under the ministry provide rehabilitation services for children under the age of 6 with confirmed disabilities, developmental delays, or at risk of delays in physical, sensory, or communication aspects to reduce the impact on the child and family. They also offer family training programs to enhance children’s abilities in various areas.

The Emirates Early Intervention Program identifies children approaching inclusion at the age of 4, developing individual transition plans and evaluating outcomes in collaboration with Emirates Schools Establishment before inclusion. The process of students’ inclusion into public education involves nominations, evaluations, and electronic registration by guardians with support from people of determination centers and the support committee.
