The federal government plans to increase the minimum hourly wage for temporary foreign workers in the high-wage stream to 20% above the provincial median income, starting on Nov. 8. This move aims to prioritize Canadian workers and address concerns about housing shortages and mistreatment of workers. The change will impact up to 34,000 workers under the LMIA high-wage stream, with existing permits remaining unaffected but renewals subject to the new requirement.
