Geneva
– The UN migration agency reported that 53 individuals are dead or missing after a boat capsized in the Mediterranean near Libya, with only two Nigerian women surviving. The incident occurred on February 5, shortly after the boat departed from Al-Zawiya, highlighting the dangers faced by migrants attempting to reach Europe. The IOM emphasized the exploitation by trafficking networks and called for enhanced international cooperation to create safer migration pathways. In January alone, at least 375 migrants were reported dead or missing in the Central Mediterranean, with the total for 2025 already at 484 as of this month.
