Mexican authorities are offering state protection to singer Natanael Cano and other artists after a drug cartel in northern Mexico publicly threatened them. The threats, signed by a Sinaloa cartel faction known as “Jalisco Matasalas,” accused the artists of supporting a rival gang and warned of violence if they did not comply. The rise in violence in northern Mexico, triggered by the capture of narco boss Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, has led to increased threats against musicians in the region.
