Violence erupts in Mexico following death of cartel leader El Mencho

Following the killing of Nemesio Ruben Oseguera Cervantes, also known as “El Mencho”, the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, widespread violence erupted in Mexico. Schools were closed, and citizens were urged to stay indoors as cartel members retaliated with roadblocks and vehicle fires. The US provided intelligence support for the operation, with President Claudia Sheinbaum praising Mexico’s army for taking down one of the most wanted criminals.
