The Legal Defense Fund (LDF) announced its exit from Meta’s external civil rights advisory group due to concerns over recent changes in content moderation and the rollback of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) policies, which the LDF believes threaten the safety of marginalized communities. The LDF criticized Meta for implementing these changes without consulting the advisory group and warned that the alterations could exacerbate discrimination and harm to Black communities. LDF associate director Todd A. Cox emphasized the need for Meta to reconsider its policies and ensure compliance with federal civil rights laws, while expressing disappointment in the company’s lack of consultation.
