Mechelen is currently restoring St. Rumbold’s Cathedral roof for €1.6 million under the direction of architect Wim Jacobs, involving gutter replacements, asbestos removal, and minor repairs expected to be completed by spring. The project is managed by Mechelen City for Sint-Romboutstoren, while the cathedral itself is overseen by the province of Antwerp, marking the first significant repair in nearly fifty years. Work commenced recently and is progressing according to plan.
