Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass issued Executive Order 1 to expedite rebuilding efforts after fires destroyed homes and businesses in Pacific Palisades, requiring city departments to complete project reviews within 30 days and waiving discretionary hearings. Governor Gavin Newsom had previously waived regulations to speed up rebuilding efforts in the city and surrounding areas. Bass’ order also establishes task forces for debris removal and mudslide mitigation, with advocates calling for more action to fast-track new housing developments citywide to address the housing crisis exacerbated by the fires.
