Maya Hawke claims some producers cast actors based on their numbers of Instagram followers

Maya Hawke recently discussed on a podcast how actors’ social media following is influencing casting decisions and film production. She expressed concern over the blurred line between actor and celebrity, with some producers requiring a certain number of Instagram followers for projects to move forward. Despite this, Hawke noted that a few established directors, such as Quentin Tarantino, Bradley Cooper, and Wes Anderson, are exempt from these social media-based casting decisions.
