Congolese authorities and a civil society group discovered two mass graves in the outskirts of Uvira, recently seized by the M23 rebel group, with at least 171 bodies found. The victims were allegedly killed by the rebels on suspicion of ties to the DRC army or pro-government militia. The conflict in eastern DRC, fueled by more than 100 armed groups vying for control of the mineral-rich region, has led to a significant humanitarian crisis with millions displaced and thousands killed.
