Mason Melia’s £1.5m Tottenham move makes him first League of Ireland player to break million-pound barrier

Tottenham have broken the transfer record for a League of Ireland player by signing 17-year-old Mason Melia from St Patrick’s Athletic for an initial £1.5m with potential add-ons up to £3.5m. Melia, a striker, was in London to finalize the deal, which will officially go through on January 1, following Brexit rules that require him to wait until after his 18th birthday in September to move.
