A 44-year-old man, Charles Green, has been charged with murder in connection with a fire that resulted in the death of Chicago Fire Department Capt. David Meyer on Wednesday. The fire, which occurred around 4 a.m., led to the collapse of a garage and a mayday alarm was issued shortly thereafter; Meyer, a 28-year veteran of the department, was transported to a hospital but was later pronounced dead. He is survived by his parents, wife, and four children, with fire union president Patrick Cleary noting that it was “pretty evident” Green started the fire.
