In the two years since Malaysia’s Pakatan Harapan took power, the country has become Southeast Asia’s leading economy, surprising political analysts who predicted failure due to the inclusion of the corrupt UMNO in the ruling coalition. Despite concerns over curtailed freedoms and corruption, Anwar Ibrahim is expected to remain in power until at least 2027, leading a stable government amidst economic success and growing foreign investments, particularly in the IT sector with plans to attract big US and Chinese firms for data centers.
