A new government app is set to launch a digital driving licence and official ID, aiming to replace traditional plastic licences as part of a £45 billion digital overhaul. The digital licence will be available through the Gov.uk App and Wallet, which will also store documents like MOT dates and benefits payments, enhancing ID verification for various uses. While the app will first be accessible to veterans this summer, the digital driving licence will remain optional, allowing users to continue using their physical licences if preferred.
