A powerful explosion at Shahid Rajaee Port in southern Iran on Saturday has resulted in 14 fatalities and 750 injuries, with reports suggesting the blast stemmed from a fire at a hazardous materials storage depot, possibly involving sodium perchlorate. The explosion caused extensive damage, with schools and offices in Bandar Abbas closed to facilitate emergency efforts, as smoke and flames spread, complicating firefighting efforts. Iranian officials are investigating the incident, which coincided with high-level talks between Iranian and US delegations regarding Tehran’s nuclear program.
