The Maharashtra government has established a 10-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by CID’s Deputy Inspector General Basavraj Teli to investigate the murder of Massajog sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh, who was abducted and killed on December 9 for opposing an extortion attempt by individuals demanding money from a windmill company. Village residents staged a ‘jal samadhi’ protest demanding the arrest of the three accused, which was called off after district Superintendent of Police Navneet Kanwat assured them of police efforts to apprehend the suspects.
